Strong communities aren’t built by accident. They’re shaped by people, relationships, and the daily commitment to show up for one another. In Spokane, the needs of youth and families continue to evolve, and with them comes the responsibility to create support systems that are accessible, culturally responsive, and sustainable. R2S Social Services is rooted in that belief. Our work is grounded in a simple idea: when we lift families, we lift entire neighborhoods.
Many families navigate complex challenges—housing instability, behavioral struggles, school disengagement, trauma, or simply not knowing where to turn next. The problem isn’t that support doesn’t exist. It’s that services are often disconnected, scattered, or difficult to access. That’s where R2S steps in: not to replace what Spokane already offers, but to bridge the gaps, coordinate support, and help families move forward with dignity and safety.
A cornerstone of our approach is non-clinical behavioral support. Too often, youth who struggle with emotions or behavior are labeled before they’re understood. Our role is to meet them where they are—at home, at school, or in the community—and guide them toward skills that build confidence, resilience, and connection. Prosocial behavior doesn’t develop in isolation. It grows through consistent relationships, positive role models, and opportunities to succeed. By offering individualized support and group activities, we help youth regulate emotions, build communication skills, and stay connected to safe, caring adults.
But behavioral support is just one piece of the puzzle. Families also need help navigating systems that can feel overwhelming. From housing applications to employment connections to benefits assistance, the process is often confusing. R2S provides community resource navigation so no one has to do it alone. Our navigators walk side-by-side with families, ensuring they understand their options, complete applications correctly, attend appointments, and receive warm handoffs to partners who can offer specialized services. When someone is juggling multiple challenges, this type of support can be the difference between stability and crisis.
Another essential element of our work involves providing prosocial activities that build belonging. Young people need safe spaces to explore interests, try new skills, and form healthy relationships. Weekly and monthly activities—sports, arts, cultural events, leadership outings—give youth a sense of structure and purpose. These moments create memories, strengthen identity, and reduce the likelihood of risky behavior. For many youth, it’s the first time they feel seen, supported, and valued.
Beyond direct services, R2S plays a key role in Community Safety Council (CSC) coordination—a vital component of Spokane’s East Side Holistic Safety Plan. Safety is not just the absence of harm; it’s the presence of connection, trust, and community engagement. Through the CSC, we work with partners across sectors to examine violence trends, develop community-driven solutions, coordinate training, and mobilize residents. Our focus is on preventing harm before it happens by strengthening relationships and increasing shared accountability.
The heart of this work is collaboration. R2S believes that real change happens when organizations stop operating in silos and start working together. Schools, nonprofits, faith communities, public agencies, lived-experience leaders—they all bring valuable strengths. When these strengths are stitched together, Spokane becomes a safer, healthier place for everyone. Families feel supported. Youth feel seen. Neighborhoods feel hopeful.
Every service we provide is guided by cultural humility and respect. We honor each family’s story and recognize the cultural richness within our community. Whether a youth needs behavioral support, a parent needs resources, or a neighborhood needs safety planning, we strive to respond with empathy and understanding.
Spokane deserves a coordinated support system that works for everyone. At R2S, we’re committed to filling the gaps, connecting people to resources, and empowering families to build the futures they imagine. Small steps create big change, and when we take those steps together, we create a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
